Pass-a-Grille (Saint Pete Beach’s Historic District) is a laidback low-rise beach community whose stunning beaches, authentic Old Florida charm and spectacular sunsets create the ideal setting for your deeply relaxing vacation. Shed your worries while doing absolutely nothing or sample the town’s many restaurants; browse its boutiques, local gallery, outdoor art market, and toast the sunset on the Hurricane Restaurant’s rooftop deck – all within walking distance. Want a change of pace? It’s just 20 minutes to downtown St. Petersburg, where you’ll find a wealth of cultural attractions, activities, eateries and bars. Getting to Pass-a-Grille is a breeze – just 40 minutes from Tampa International Airport and 30 minutes from St. Pete–Clearwater International Airport.
Our property was built in 1944 and combines a mid-century beach feel with modern conveniences. You’ll love the location – both units, the bungalow and separate garage apartment are just 100 short steps…. to the powdery white sands of beautiful Pass a Grille Beach on the shimmering Gulf of Mexico. Plus, a half-minute walk to Boca Ciega Bay and Pass-A-Grille Marina in the other direction. On the bay side, you can pick up freshly caught seafood at the fishing pier and grill it yourself or have a neighboring restaurant prepare it to order. From here you can head out on a sunset/dolphin watch cruise or deep-sea fishing trip, take a speedboat for a spin, rent a kayak, go on a shell cruise or dine at a dozen eateries. Some of our favorites include Gennaro’s Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria, Red, White and Booze and upscale options such as Dewey’s at the Berkley Beach Club and Grace. Of course, you won’t want to miss the southern inspired breakfast at Sea Horse.

We really enjoyed our stay at Sea Salt Bungalow. The home is very charming and spacious and is just steps from the gorgeous white sands of Pass-a-Grille beach. We loved spending mornings on the sunporch sipping coffee, followed by relaxing on the beach and concluding with stunning sunsets, every day! Mickey supplied everything needed to enjoy our beach vacation, from bikes and beach chairs to helpful suggestions for things to do in the local area. Great property!

Everything worked out excellent! The owner Mickey was very welcoming and informed us about all beforehand. The house is lovely and perfectly located in the cute village Pass-a-grill with shops, bars and restaurants on walking distance just a few steps steps from the beach. The house is equipped with everything you need for your stay, including beach utilities. When we arrived we were welcomed by Chris, the property manager. She showed us the house and explained everything we needed to know. We recommend the house and are already looking forward to our next visit.

We so enjoyed our stay at this Pass-a-Grille bungalow. It had everything we needed and more. My husband and I live in the area. and we needed a ground-level place to accommodate us and my visiting elderly parents. We stayed two weeks at the house in the fall before full tourist season. We were fortunate enough to have the entire property - including patio, yard and garage - to ourselves as the apartment in back was not rented during our stay. We loved having coffee in the side yard and dinners on the deck in the sea air. The house comfortably accommodates two couples. There is one indoor shower/tub combo and a powder room adjoining the master bedroom. I also enjoyed the enclosed outdoor shower after a day on the beach. The beds were comfortable as was all the furniture. The house is tastefully appointed as a real home, not the typical beach tacky you sometimes find with beach rentals. It is also extremely quiet. Despite being across the alley from the fire station we never heard anything, not even a voice or car.

The enclosed sunroom was an added bonus. My stepmom enjoyed reading and taking afternoon naps there. The kitchen was extremely well equipped. When we didn't cook, we ordered from nearby restaurants. Seafood and pizza were only a block away. Most days, we rolled the provided cart with our gear to the beach at the end of the block. We were lucky that our stay followed a storm, and we picked up tons of shells and sand dollars that had washed ashore. It was my first time ever finding a sand dollar washed up on Pass-a-Grille, and I've lived in the area for 25 years. Another plus to the location is that it's great for watching parasailing and kiteboarding as many boarders gravitate to that end of the beach. We look forward to returning.

For 10,000 years, Indians hunted the prairies and fished the waters off what today is known as Pass-A-Grille. The last group of Native Americans to settle in the area were the Tocobagas, who were here around 1,000 – 1,700 AD. This area was first visited by Europeans in 1528 when the Spanish Explorer Panfilo de Narvaez anchored off Pass-A-Grille pass. Afterwards, the island was used as a campground by fishermen who obtained freshwater and grilled their catch here. According to legend, Pass-A-Grille derives its name from the French Passe aux Grilleurs (“passageway of the grillers”), after those fishermen. In 1857, John Gomez, self-styled “last of the pirates,” began bringing excursionists here from Tampa and built Pass-A-Grille’s first hotel, making this perhaps the oldest resort area on Central Florida’s West Coast. By the turn of the 20th century, Pass-A-Grille had its first major hotel, as well as ferry service to what is now Gulfport. The town of Pass-A-Grille Beach was incorporated into the city of St. Petersburg Beach in 1957. In 1989 a section of Pass-A-Grille was declared a National Historic District and today dozens of buildings in Pass-A-Grille retain historic appeal and interest.
